Where to go fishing near Albany and Sana Rocks?

  • Normanby River Rocks Rock bar on south side fishes well for Barramundi.
  • Turtle Head Island Great fishing on the run out tide due to channels. Barramundi, Snapper, Coral Trout, Cod, Trevalley, Queenfish and more all around the island.
  • Skardon River Sandbar Get a good catch along the sandbar near the river mouth. The first creek mouth off Skardon River and bottleneck also holds Queenfish and Trevally.
  • Jackson River Rocks The large rock here is a hotspot for Cod, Giant Herring, Queenfish and Trevally. April to June is the perfect season to fish the region with mostly perfect weather.
  • Jackson River Mouth The river mouth is a Queenfish and Trevally hotspot. The first creek in also fishes well for Barramundi and Jacks, especially
  • Jackson River Bank The deep bank along this section of the Jackson River holds Barramundi and Jack.
  • Upper Jackson River Bank This section of the river dries on low tide, so keep an eye on tides. At high tide you will find Barramundi and Jacks here.
  • Doughboy River Mouth There is a deep hole at the mouth of the river, which holds most estuary fish (shown by pinpoint on map). Queenfish, Trevally and Barracuda are along the Northern edge of the water channel.
  • Doughboy River Bank Barramundi are found to hug the Western bank of the river near the sandbar, while Jacks can be found further upstream in off shooting creeks, however keep and eye on tides as the river tends to get shallow upstream.
  • Cotterell River The Cotterell River mouth is popular for Queenfish, Trevalley, Mackerel and Tarpon (aka Oxeye Herring). Rocks line the western side of the bank as the river splits.
  • Kirke River Barramundi and Salmon common around the first major bend after the mudflat. The Kirke River mouth moves frequently during the seasons, with constant shifting sands at the mouth.
  • Jardine River Bait holes at mouth bring Barramundi, Mackerel and Queenfish. Difficult to navigate at low tide, 2.5nm to Mutee Head.
  • Crab Island Known to be a turtle rookery. Good sized Queenfish, Salmon, Mackerel and Trevalley can be found just offshore of the island.
  • Mid Rock Located South West of of the wreck (historic site). Calm weather access only, good sized Trout, Trevalley, Mackerel and Queenfish can be found around the rock.
  • Eborac Island Waters Cape Island and Eborac Island are home to many pelagic fish species. Watch for birds indicating schools, and fish the drop offs. Easterly side of Eborac Island holds Snapper, Jewfish and Nannygai.
  • Fly Point Cape York Fish the rocky shore at Fly Point for Queenfish, Trevalley and Mackerel.
  • Kennedy Inlet Mouth Rocky area on the North bank of the inlet mouth holds Golden Snapper, Barramundi and sometimes Trevalley. Also fish the first creek mouth, it has restricted access however the mouth holds Barramundi, Jacks, Snapper and Queenfish.
  • Woomera Creek Rock bars present about 1km upstream from the mouth. Barramundi, Jacks and Snapper frequent here.
  • Big Creek Number One Mouth and junction fish well in the first creek off Big Creek. You can manage to get the odd Barracuda here, along with Barramundi, Queenfish, Snapper and Cod.
  • Middle River Troll banks for Barramundi, Snapper and Cod.
  • Escape River Rocks These rocks fish great for Snapper and Cod. Holes either side of the bommie hold Tuna and Queenfish, with best fishing said to be in Winter on neap tides.
  • Escape River Junction Hole at junction fishes well for Trevalley, Snapper and Jewfish.
  • Turtle Island Reef Great fishing on the Easterly side - Coral Trout, Trevalley, Mackerel, Cod and other pelagic species. Best accessed in calm weather, as area is unprotected.
  • Marrett River Mouth Gutter near mouth fishes well. Trevalley, Flathead, Queenfish all common on the incoming tide.
