Alligator Creek is just south of Townsville and holds Barramundi, Grunter, Bream, Mangrove Jack and Flathead. There is a deep rock bar 2 bends up from the mouth which generally holds fish. The mouth of Alligator Creek is a large sand flat and the main channel runs south – which can be hard to see during wind chop.
Fishing Alligator Creek anglers should consider the same techniques used for North Queensland creek. Target Barramundi on low / run out tides with classic barra lures and soft plastics. The best places to find fish are around structure that is permanently underwater, most snags out of water during the low tide won’t be holding the fish at high tide, so low tide is your best bet. Look for structure sunken deep underwater 2-3m.
Alligator Creek fishing is most productive during the warmer months, it is a muddy creek and visibility is often poor, therefore brightly coloured lures work best.
