Balla Balla is an isolated camp site with no facilities, it is mostly only visited by keen anglers. There is no shade, toilets or freshwater so come prepared. The boat ramp is best used on an upper tide and the best fishing is done during neap tides.
There isn’t too many land based fishing options at Balla Balla, but to increase the chances of a good catch plan your fishing trip around the neap tides. There are several access spots along the creek, soaking a bait is probably the best way to land a big Jewfish, Threadfin Salmon, Mangrove Jack or Barramundi.
Balla Balla is most famous for the West Moore Island fishing lodge, which produces some of the best flats fishing in Australia. Located only a few kilometers offshore, anglers with a small boat can access the islands and surrounding creeks for fantastic fishing, however the Balla Balla produces some fantastic fishing.
The nearby creeks aren’t all the same, some hold water on low tide while others don’t. The creeks that hold water on low tide are generally the most productive for all fish species. Fishing Balla Balla anglers can expect Barramundi, Mangrove Jack, Threadfin Salmon, Trevally, Queenfish, Black Jewfish, Fingermark, Blue Salmon and the usual by-catch of Bream, Flathead and Whiting.
Offshore, around the islands and over the flats has some of Australia’s best flats fishing. Trevally and Queenfish are easily sight casted as they cruise the flats. The reefs produce Tuskfish, Coral Trout and Emperor, although the best spots are further offshore.
