Barnhill Fishing

Approximately 140 kilometres south of Broome, with 10km of maintained unsealed road is the beautiful camp spot of Barnhill. Barnhill caravan park is located in Thangoo Station and has modern facilities, offering accommodation for tents, caravans and chalets. The camping spots are powered or unpowered and there is a basic store.

Barnhill land based fishing is focued around the beaches and rocky point, driving along the beach is not permitted. Around the rocks at high tide anglers can expect mostly Trevally and Queenfish. The beaches produce Whiting and Bream.

Boat fishing at Barnhill

Boat launching is allowed via a beach launch out the from the Barnhill camp. The waves can be crushing along the coastline at high tide but there is always plenty of help around making launching pretty simple for small boats.

Offshore from Barnhill anglers can either head north to Cape Villaret or directly out to sea in search of likely reefs. Both Cape Villaret and the offshore Barnhill reefs hold Coral Trout, Tuskfish, Grass Emperor, Trevally and Queenfish. Spanish Mackerel and better reef fishing is further out, 20km or more.

Where to go fishing near Barnhill?

  • Barnhill Reef Approximately 15km from Barnhill beach launch, there is a series of reef along here from 6-8m deep.
  • Barnhill Reef Approximately 24km offshore, good Reef in 8m of water that produces Coral Trout, Grass Emperor and Tuskfish.
  • Barnhill Rocks Trevally and Queenfish at the top of the tide around the rocks. They will take all sorts of lures, poppers, metal slugs and soft plastics.
