Black River is a medium sized estuary system just north of Townsville. It’s close proximity to Townsville means it is fished heavily, however some of Townsville’s biggest Barramundi are caught in the deep holes. The river systems here from Black River and southwards start to really change ecosystem and surroundings compared to their northern counter parts – gone are the lush rainforest covered mountains replaced with sand flats. Anglers can expect a system with all the features of a larger system, sand flats, mangrove lined banks, deep holes and structure.
Fishing Black River anglers should take into consideration all the advice for fishing any Far North Queensland estuary system. Good Barramundi are caught at the mouths of the feeder creeks in early summer.
Black River fishing also produces Salmon, Grunter, Golden Snapper and crabs.
