Camden Haven is just 30km south of Port Macquarie and 350km north of Sydney, the area is popular amongst tourists, anglers, oyster farmers and grey nomads. Flowing down from the Three Brother mountains Camden Haven River is a scenic fishing destination separated by large lakes and joined by small tributaries. There are some great features in Camden Haven River that make for some great fishing spots for land based anglers, boaters, kayakers and families.
Startings at the mouth of the Camden River are both a north and south breakwall which attracts some great fishing particularly in autumn and winter when the Tailor and Bream. During these times bream move near to river entrances for spawning in surf zones during July and August. Tailor migrate north once water temperatures begin to drop, each year large schools of tailor migrate north to Queensland waters. Mulloway are also a common catch, these predatory fish are best targeted at dawn, dusk and night time when they are actively hunting.
Luderick or blackfish fishing is also extremely popular in the Camden River. Lurderick will school up around rocky areas near wash, headlands and inshore reefs, with winter being the best time to target these fish.
Heading upstream from the mouth of the Camden River, the fishing spots are still great, Gogleys lagoon has 2 small channels that fish well on a run out tide for all sorts. The parade rock wall is a popular spot for Bream and Luderick. The boulevarde has some jetty structure for lure fishos chasing bream and Ocean drive bridge has a deep hole and structure for resident Mulloway, big bream and flathead.
At Laurieton the Camden River splits, stingray Creek and the Camden from here are best explored via a boat or kayak. From here the winding Creek, channels and shallow flats hold good numbers of whiting, Bream, Flathead, Blackfish, Yabbies and Prawns.
