Cudgera Creek is a small, shallow creek at the popular tourist destination at Hastings Point. There are a few fun little fishing spots at Hastings Point that are perfect for the family. The main fish species caught in Cudgera Creek are Whiting, Flathead, Luderick and Bream. Hastings point headland and surrounding beaches produce Tailor, Whiting, Bream and Mulloway for the dedicated angler.
Hastings Point isn’t a fishing paradise, but if you have a few hours to pass or just looking to relax with the family, Cudgera Creek is a great place to pump for yabbies and sit back with a line in the water. A small boat or kayak is great to access parts of the creek where land based fishing cannot.
Fish as light as possible in Cudgera Creek using small running ball sinkers and hooks. Land based fishing is best done with bait. In a kayak or boat it is possible to target flathead successfully on small soft plastics.
Heading out to the beaches, anglers will need a longer rod and slightly heavier setup, but still fish light! 2-6kg will cover most scenarios around here, unless you’re targeting mulloway, then a 10kg setup is preferred.
