Where to go fishing near Dampier Creek?

  • Hidden Creek Accessed via Manari Road, then along the beach and across 2 creeks, only cross the creeks at low tide. Creek has great fishing for Mangrove Jack, Trevally, Queenfish, Bream and the odd Barramundi. Walking the creek on low tide produces some good fish.
  • Manari Queenfish and Trevally on high tide, and last of the low tide. Tuskfish around the reef just offshore.
  • Barred Creek Queenfish and Trevally around the mouth of Barred Creek on high tide.
  • Dampier Creek Mouth Troll the creek mouth with hard body lures for the chance at Barramundi. Rock bar slightly upstream on the right.
  • Willie Creek Jacks Mangrove Jacks in the snags and cod along this bank amongst the rocky snags.
  • Willie Creek Jacks Work the snags in the deeper holes at the start of the run in and towards the end of the run out tide, upstream for Mangrove Jack. All tides are successful however the bite period towards the end of the tide could leave boats stranded.
  • Willie Creek Barra Work the snags along here on both the incoming and outgoing tide for a chance at a Barramundi. They are not their very often, but always worth a try!
  • Declaration Rock Approximately 8km offshore from the beach launch this reef patch rises up to 4.5m of water from 10m of water. The reef holds Coral Trout, Grass Emperor, Tuskfish, Trevally and the taxman (sharks). 300-400m south east is a sharp drop off.
  • Gantheaume Reef Approximately 2.8km from the beach launch, the reef fishing starts getting better around here. This reef is 7m deep surrounded by 10-12m of water.
  • Whale Rock Only 2km from the beach launch, Whale Rock has big Queenfish and mackerel at times.
  • Escape Rocks Approximately 6km from the Jetty Boat ramp and 5km from Gantheaume Point beach launch. Escape rocks has good drop off fishing for Trevally, Queenfish and Mackerel.
  • Roebuck Deep Only 2.5km from the jetty boat ramp, Roebuck deep has good fishing along the drop off. The main species caught here are Black Jewfish, Fingermark, Coral Trout and Tuskfish. Best fished during neap tides.
  • East Rock Approximately 5km from the jetty boat ramp, East rock has good reef fishing for Coral Trout, Grass Emperor and Tuskfish. Trevally and the taxman are also around. Soft plastics and Vibes can be used even close to the large spring tides.
  • Jewie Hole Only 500m from the boat ramp, this deep 40m hole holds Jewfish. Can only be fished during neap tides. Try using mullet baits or jig soft plastics around the turn of the tides.
  • Jewie Hole Broome Deep hole only 3km from the jetty boat ramp, 15m+ hole that holds Black Fish and Fingermark at times, try jigging the bottom with soft plastics or use strip mullet baits.
  • Disaster Rock Approximately 15km offshore from the jetty boat ramp is Disaster Rock. This isolated bommie often has Mackerel, Trevally and Queenfish.
  • Willie Creek South There is a fairly deep hole here, cast out baits, anglers can expect, Trevally, Bream and Flathead. Coconut Wells Road also leads to Willie Creek to a deep hole where anglers can use bait for Bream, Flathead and live bait for the best chance at a Barramundi.
  • Willie Creek Willie Creek produces some good fishing however it is not popular for Barramundi or Threadfin Salmon. The land based fishing spots mostly produce Cod, Bream, Flathead, Trevally and Queenfish. The flats out the front of Willie Creek have been known to produce Permit and Trevally on fly.
  • Coconut Wells Coconut Wells is north of Broome, accessed via four wheel drive, take the first left on the Cape Leveque Road, drive along the beach to the start of the reef. On high tide anglers can expect Trevally, Queenfish, Tuskfish, Bream and Whiting.
  • Gantheaume Point Gantheaume Point sometimes has Queenfish and Trevally on high tide, however it is not a popular fishing spot.
  • Broome Jetty Rocks The Rocks to the south hold Bream, Trevally and Queenfish on an incoming tide. Small hard body lures work well on the bream as they move into structure with the incoming tide. Queenfish and Trevally can often be seen smashing bait schools, poppers and soft plastics work well here.
  • Broome Jetty Broome Jetty provides anglers access to deeper waters, although it’s a long way to the water so heavy line is recommended. Anglers target passing Mackerel, Queenfish, Trevally and the odd black Jewfish. There are rumours of Barramundi holding in the deep holes here, apparently they can be jigged on soft vibes.
  • Crab Creek Road Heading along Crab Creek road there are several access points to small rocky points. These areas stir up dirty water on the moving tides, this dirty water is a good place to target Barramundi. Trevally and Queenfish will also be by catch in these areas
  • False Crab Creek Continuing on Crab Creek road leads to false Crab Creek, a small creek system that does hold Thread Salmon at times, the best method here is sitting on baits like strip mullet and prawns.
  • Roebuck Bay anchor bouys The anchor bouys sometimes have Tripletail, try casting a lightly weight soft plastics beside a few.
  • Roebuck Bay Trevally Trevally through the bay, they can be spotted smashing bait fish close to the surface.
  • Roebuck Bay Holes Use a sounder at the deep holes to look for fish laying dormant during neap tides. Jewfish are known to be caught in the deep holes and near reefs throughout Roebuck Bay.
  • Roebuck Bay feeder Creeks Work the mouth of the feeders creeks on the incoming and outgoing tide for Threadfin Salmon. Most creeks are only accessible on spring tides.
  • Crab Creek Work the bend on the incoming tide with hard body lures for Threadfin Salmon. Also focus around the small feeder creeks. Salmon are often visible in the shallows smashing bait fish, try casting prawn baits slow to them.
  • Dampier Creek Snags Fish the snags for Mangrove Jack and Barramundi during the run out tide.
