Dunsborough Fishing Spots

Dunsborough is a great holiday destination for the travelling angler. Cape Naturaliste, Bunker Bay and Dunsborough produce good fishing at times from both shore and boat based fishing. The Australian Salmon migrate past Dunborough in early to late Autumn, which can see some fantastic fishing in Dunsborough and most of the beaches and rocky outcrops hold fish. Australian Salmon will readily take all kinds of lures, metal slugs and shallow diving hard body minnows always work well.

Good places to start looking for fishing spots in Dunsborough is Casle Bay and Meelup, both close to town. These fishing spots will hold Herring and in the late afternoon Tailor.

Dunsborough offshore fishing

Dunsborough has some great offshore fishing opportunities for small boat anglers, the waters are relatively sheltered from the large south westerly swells that smash the west coast. Offshore anglers can bottom jig soft plastics, vibes and metals for Pink Snapper and Samson Fish. Trolling is also effective for Australian Bonito and the old Southern Bluefin Tuna.

Approximately 6km offshore from Dunsborough is Four Mile reef which produces Pink Snapper, Dhufish, Herring and Skippy. Four Mile reef can become dangerous in large swells so also take caution when planning a trip. A bit further out, 7km from Dunborough is an artificial reef which produces Pink Snapper, Dhufish, Samson and the odd Blue Groper.

Geographe Bay

Geographe Bay boat fishing can be very productive for Bonito, Tailor and Pike. Trolling lures is the most effective way to find fish and hook Bonito. King George whiting can also present, look for the sand patches between weed beds and target them with soft plastic lures.

Eagle Bay

A short drive from Dunborough, heading towards Cape Naturaliste anglers will find several small beaches and bays, this area is a great place to fish as it is relatively sheltered from the large swells and prevailing westerly winds. Eagle Bay is a popular spot during the Salmon run, large schools will follow the shore line around Cape Naturaliste making them easy targets for anglers. Eagle bay also fishes well at times for Herring, Tailor, Skippy and King George Whiting

Bunker Bay

Great sheltered fishing land or boat based for Herring, Tailor and Skippy, produces Salmon in Autumn. Bunker Bay also fishes well for Flathead and King George Whiting.

Cape Naturaliste

Good rock fishing on the west side of Cape Naturaliste however it can be dangerous due to rough seas. Samson Fish, Salmon, Yellowtail Kingfish and Southern Bluefin Tuna are a possibility.

Rocky Point

Produces Herring, Tailor and Whiting year round, also produces Australian Salmon in Autumn.

Wright Bank

Great fishing in calm conditions for Dhufish, Pink Snapper, Queen Snapper and King George Whiting

Point Dalling Boat Ramp

Good boat ramp, mainly for smaller boats, surrounded by rock boulders, boats are mainly launched at high tide.
