Hopetoun is a remote town located 585km from Perth and 160km west of Esperance. Hopetoun is fairly remote and has a population of around 300, making it an ideal fishing location for anglers as it has relatively unspoilt waters.
Hopetoun has some fantastic fishing opportunities for land and boat based anglers, a major draw card is the bottom fishing only 10-12km offshore. If going offshore isn’t a option, the small estuaries and inlets around Hopetoun produce some of the best Black Bream fishing in all of Australia.
Culham is regarded as one of Australia’s best Black Bream fishing, readily taken soft plastics, vibes, small hard body minnows and even surface poppers. In recent years the Culham Inlet has been almost completely sealed off from the ocean, so Black Bream fishing quality may decline, a poor decision made by authorities. Jerdacuttup Lakes feeder creek and Fitzgerald River are beautiful fishing spots that also produce a few Black Bream.
Hopetoun also offers some great land based fishing for Australia Salmon, Tailor, Skippy, Herring and the odd Mulloway.
Located to the west of Hopetoun about 80km is small section of beach and rocky out crop known as Quoin Head. Access is only via Four Wheel Drive, however the fishing here is great. From Quoin Head beach anglers can target Whiting, Skippy and Herring, during the Salmon run they will also turn up close to the beach.
Off the rocks at Quion Head has good fishing for Mulloway, Samson Fish, Australian Salmon and even Pink Snapper.
To the East of Hopetoun about 40km is Mason Bay, a 150m long pocket of beach, anglers can fish for Australian Salmon, Whiting and the odd Skippy.
A popular campsite, Starvation bay offers small boat anglers the chance to launch a boat from the beach, within the bay anglers can fish for Giant Herring, Skippy, Whiting and Squid.
Munglinup beach is a 600m long stretch of beach protected by a outer reef system. Both beach and rock fishing is popular at Munglinup Beach with anglers targeting Herring, Whiting, Squid and Skippy. Boat launching is also possible from the beach.
The reefs around Hopetoun produce Queen Snapper, Pink Snapper, Samson fish, Kingfish, Breaksea cod and more. Small boats can venture offshore provided conditions are optimal however a charter is the best way to fish for reef species.
