Kalang River is located 500km north of Sydney, it is a perennial river of the Bellinger River catchment. Kalang River rises within the great dividing range descending 350ms and is 77 kilometers long. It joins Bellinger river not far from the mouth and is just as big the Bellinger RIver. Commercial fishing is banned in both Bellinger and Kalang River which means there is some really great fishing in the Kalang River, it is also banned from commercial netting. There are so many interesting bends and turns within the Kalang River, more so than the Bellinger and it fishes a bit better too especially for flathead.

Kalang River mouth fishing spots are covered under the Bellinger River information page, basically the break wall has Tailor, Mulloway, Bream and Luderick. Or take the 4wd beach access from Mylestom down to the northern side of the mouth to target whiting and get some sand worms with the kids.

Further upstream the Kalang are some good land based fishing spots, however a small boat or kayak is required to access some of the better fishing spots.

Fishing the Bellinger River anglers can expect:

• Bream
• Flathead
• Whiting
• Tailor
• Mulloway
• Luderick

Further upstream anglers can fish for Mangrove Jack and up in the freshwater reaches native Australian Bass.

There are some great weed beds to target Bream on a rising tide, and then Flathead on the outgoing tide. There is yabbies beds to pump yabbies and target Whiting. Deep holes for mulloway and further upstream some great structure for Mangrove Jack and Australian Bass.
