Mooball Creek, much like the small creeks to the north Cudgera and Cudgen, is small and shallow. Located at Pottsville which is a popular tourist destination, the creek has plenty of access for families wanting to fish land based, however a small boat or kayak will open up the options more. There are a few fun little fishing spots at Pottsville and Mooball Creek. The main fish species caught in Mooball creek are Whiting, Flathead, Luderick and Bream. The beaches to the north and south have some good gutters for Tailor fishing, also Whiting, Bream and the odd Mulloway.
If you have a few hours to pass or just looking to relax with the family, Mooball Creek is a great place to pump for yabbies and sit back with a line in the water or soak some bait. A small boat or kayak is great to access parts of the creek where land based fishing cannot particularly upstream.
Fishing for the bread and butter species it is best to fish light, 2-4kg spin setups will cover all the fish species in Mooball creek.
Fishing Pottsville beach anglers will need a longer rod and slightly heavier setup, but still fish light! 2-6kg will cover most scenarios around here, unless you’re targeting mulloway, then a 10kg setup is preferred.
