There isn’t a lot of information around regarding fishing the Moresby River. Located just south of Innisfail the Moresby River is small tidal estuary with all the usual treats of a Far North Queensland river system, mangroves, flats, sunken structure, feeder creeks and salt water at the mouth going into fresh water further upstream. Mourilyan Inlet could be the perfect hidden gem and secluded getaway, not to far from civilisation and we suspect fisherman would be greatly rewarded. The river from our research has been and continues to be stocked with Barramundi by the Johnstone Shire Fish Stocking Association.
The Moresby River system has a boat ramp right near the mouth of the river on the northern side beside port, there are deep holes around the port and they hold Fingermark, Jewfish and pelagic fish like Trevally and Queenfish. The mouth of the river has on either side of the entrance, would would be a good place to drop some live bait on both incoming and outgoing tides.
