Nambucca River is located 450km north of Sydney at Nambucca Heads, it is 87km long and joined by four tributaries including Taylors Arm and Warrell Creek. The river is relatively short so the tide flows fast for a New South Wales river. There is a huge amount of sand bars at the mouth, upstream has some great structure and Warrell Creek has untouched creek banks making Nambucca River fishing spots some of the best in NSW.
There are plenty of land based fishing spots in Nambucca Heads, the Nambucca River mouth has rock fishing, the surrounding beaches of forster and shelly beach and further up the river are some good places to fish in the Nambucca River.
What fish species are caught in the Nambucca River?
There are several good places to launch a boat or kayak in the Nambucca, which will give anglers access to some fantastic fishing spots. The mouth of the Nambucca River bar crossing can be treacherous, it is not the deepest bar crossing although it is still used by locals, so only use it if you’re confident.
For kayak fisho’s, there are several good launch spots from the mouth to further upstream, Warrell Creek also has a good launch spot. Further upstream are some beautiful spots like Devils Elbow where you can launch a kayak and fish for Australia Bass, they will happily take a hard body lure cast amongst the snags particularly in Summer. During winter bass will often school up in deeper water and can be caught using metal vibes jigged up and down.
Overall Nambucca River fishing spots are well worth trying out, the area is beautiful and the fishing can be great since Nambucca Heads is still fairly small.
