Where to go fishing near Reef Headland?

  • Prawn Farm South This is the only camp on the eastern side and is not really suitable for caravans, however small to medium boats can be launched here. The insects are worse on this side also. However the creeks in Giralia Bay have rarely been fished and are all well worth exploring. Anglers can expect Threadfin Salmon, Mangrove Jacks, Big Cod, Trevally, Queenfish and the odd Barramundi further north.
  • Prawn Farm West It is almost to easy catching a feed of whiting and bream around the shallows at high tide. Anglers can also walk out to the island and target Trevally and Queenfish.
  • Giralia Bay headland The beaches of the headland are great places to target Trevally and Queenfish in the shallow. Its not uncommon to be able to sight cast to these fish cruising the shallows. Bream are found around the mangroves on an incoming tide.
  • 3 Creeks Giralia bay These creeks can only be access on mid tide and above, be careful not to get stuck in the creeks on the way out on a the shallow sand bars. The 3 creeks are all worth exploring and produce big Cod, Mangrove Jack, small Threadfin Salmon, Bream and Flathead. The shallows out the front produce Trevally on a rising tide.
  • First Creek Giralia Bay This is the first creek going west from camp in a boat, it is not the most productive creek. It produces Flathead, Bream, Cod and Mangrove Jack. Lots of whiting, flathead and bream at the mouth of the creek.
  • Upstream Creek Camp Upstream from the camp spot is a better spot to target small Threadfin Salmon, Cod and Mangrove Jack.
  • Ex Giralia Creek Camp This is a good place to launch a small boat and a fantastic camp spot. Fishing the creek here produces Bream, Flathead and Cod. At the mouth of the creek on an incoming tide bream come into the mangroves and will readily take all kinds of lures.
