Sandon River is a small 16km long river and is located at the sleepy holiday town of Sandon, there are no services in Sandon. The Sandon River campground is located at the mouth of the Sandon River and is a great spot to camp and find fishing spots in the Sandon River. Access to the campground is via a gravel road which helps to keep the tourist numbers a little lower. Fishing the Sandon River anglers can expect Bream, Flathead, Whiting, Luderickand from the headlands Mulloway and Tailor are common catches.
There are several good land based spots for fishing the Sandon River and there is also okay access through the bar to offshore fishing spots.
Fishing the Sandon River, a 4-6kg spin outfit with braid and fluorocarbon leader will cover most fishing when chasing Bream, Flathead, Whiting and Luderick.
Fishing for tailor is a bit different but 6kg outfit will cover most Tailor, 10kg is preferred. Mulloway will require a more heavy duty setup, around 15kg will cover it.
