Where to go fishing near Sapphire Beach?

  • Bonville railway bridge Deep hole around the rail bridge pylons which holds Mangrove Jack, Bream, Trevally and Flathead. Live bait works best, but lures will also work if you are a patient.
  • Bonville Bend Deeper hole with some good structure generally holds Bream, Trevally and Flathead.
  • Pine Creek Bass Heavy structure around here, small Mangrove Jack and some good Australian Bass get caught here.
  • Pine Creek Jacks 02 Some good deep water here with heavy structure, perfect for Bream and Mangrove Jack on lures.
  • Pine creek Jacks Some good snags and structure along the creek bank from here and upstream which hold Mangrove Jack, best fishing is in Summer on lures. Bream, Trevally and flathead are a by-catch.
  • Bonville Flathead The channels throughout here produce flathead on the run out tide, soft plastics hopped along the bottom work dynamite.
  • Bonville Weed beds Fish these weed beds and to the west at the creek mouth for Flathead on a outgoing tide. Bream on the incoming tide. Whiting on surface lures.
  • Bonville Yabbie Bed A good spot to pump for yabbies, head upstream around the first bend and to the southern sand bar for better whiting fishing.
  • Bonville Rocks Deeper water with some good rock structure holds Bream and Lurderick. All tides are worth a try here.
  • Bonville bend 02 A good land based spot to live bait for feeding Mangrove Jack, best at night. If in a boat, work the snags along this bend for Jacks, Bream, Flathead and trevally.
  • Connor Hurley Reserve Fish off the rocks on an incoming tide for bream, can be snaggy along here.
  • Bonville creek mouth Fish the deeper holes along the rock edge for Bream, Flathead and Luderick. Some good eddies are formed here at times making it easier to fish.
  • Boambee Creek Jacks Some good structure from here upstream that has some Mangrove Jack for the dedicated angler. Summer is the best time to target jacks on lures. Bream are a by-catch.
  • Newports Creek Heavy snags here are great for lure fishing, Bream and Mangrove Jack are the main target species along this bend.
  • Boambee Flathead Fish along this drop off on the outgoing tide for Flathead, soft plastics bounced along the bottom works well. On the rising tide, fish the weed beds for Bream.
  • Fred Hansen Bridge Fish here on the run out tide for Flathead on lures. The incoming tide has a few bream best suited to bait fishing.
  • Boambee Bend Fish this deep bend on any tide for Bream, Flathead and the occasional Trevally.
  • Boambee Yabby beds A great spot to pump yabbies at low tide, on the incoming tide fish these flats for Whiting. 
  • Boambee Rail Bridge A great spot to spend the day with the family, Luderick and bream hang around the rail bridge pylons.
  • Boambee Creek mouth rocks Luderick along the rocks in the deeper water.
  • Boambee Creek mouth Whiting on the incoming tide. The beach to the north has worms and pipis with provide great bait.
  • Coffs Luderick Good luderick fishing spot at Coffs Harbour. Also plenty of bream.
  • Coffs Creek Jacks Heavy snags along here is a good place to target Mangrove Jack, particularly in Summer. Otherwise Bream and Flathead.
  • Coffs Creek Drains Water running out of these channels on a run out tide produce Flathead.
  • Coffs Shopping All along this bend is some good snags and structure, there is a lot of bream at the shopping center, target them on soft plastics, however they will easily take bait.
  • Treefern Creek mouth Fish here on a runout tide for Flathead, servo bait works. If in a boat or kayak, casting soft plastics toward the mouth then hopped back along the bottom works well. Mangrove Jack are also caught here.
  • Rail bridge A family friendly spot the pylons at rail bridge and rocky structures around here have bream and luderick. On a run out tide the small drop off upstream of the car bridge has flathead.
  • Moonee Jacks Work this bank with lures in summer time for Mangrove Jack and Bream. Continue upstream for more snags and mangrove jack and Bream.
  • Moonee Drain Flathead in this small creek mouth on the run out tide, soft plastics hopped along the bottom works well.
  • Moonee Snags Good snags along this bend hold Bream and the occasional Mangrove Jack. Further upstream the small island drop off has flathead.
  • Moonee Creek Yabbies Pump for yabbies on these sand flats, on the incoming tide there are whiting around here. On the run out tide, just to the north the small channels have flathead.
  • Moonee Creek mouth Walk across the footbridge to access the creek mouth, the tide can move fairly fast through here so the turn of the tides are the best time to fish. Here anglers can expect Bream, Flathead and Luderick. The flats around here produce whiting.
  • Sawtell Head Fish along the southern rock wall on a run out tide for Mulloway. Otherwise Bream and Tailor are the main catches.
  • Boambee Beach Accessed via 4wd, drive along the beach to find a good deep gutter to fish on the incoming tide. The beach produces some great fishing for Bream, Tailor and Mulloway. Pipis and beach worms are also around.
  • Coffs Harbour South Breakwall Its a long walk out to the end! But anglers can expect some good fishing at times, snapper, tuna and mackerel are sometimes caught in close. Otherwise its mostly Tailor, Mulloway and Bream. Stop anywhere along here to soak a bait.
  • Muttonbird Island Some great fishing ledges off Muttonbird Island, Anglers can expect Bream, Tailor and Mulloway. For the keen angler there is Snapper, Spanish Mackerel and Tuna at times.
  • Coffs Harbour Walk way Some good family fishing along the marina walkway, anglers can expect Bream, Tailor and Mulloway. Mulloway at dusk into the night.
  • Macauleys Headland The beach here is popular with swimmers, so fishing of the rocks is the best option, watch out for surfers though. Bream, Tailor and Mulloway at dawn and dusk.
  • Diggers Head A goat track leads down to some good fishing ledges in calm weather only. Here anglers can expect Tailor, Mulloway, Bream and the occasional Snapper.
  • Opal Cove It worth the extra walk away from swimmers, this beach spot has Bream, Whiting and the occasional Tailor.
  • Green Bluff Its a long walk out to Green Bluff, but for keen anglers you will be rewarded with Tailor, Bream and Mulloway.
  • Look at me now headland This is a habitat protection zone which mean recreational fishing is okay here, please double check the marine zones before going as they may have changed. Anglers can expect Bream, Tailor and Mulloway on this headland.
  • Bare Bluff A fair walk out to the rock ledges, anglers can expect to catch Bream, Tailor and Mulloway from here. South of Bare Bluff is a Habitat Protection Zone.
