Bonito are found throughout Australia from Cape Naturaliste, Western Australia around the north to Gabo Island in Victoria.
During winter large schools of Leaping Bonito push bait fish to inshore waters to feed. A oceanic epipelagic species, that feed mostly on anchovies and clupeids.
Leaping Bonito will readily tag metal slugs, jigs and minnow style lures, basically anything that resembles small bait fish. Leaping Bonito are best targeted during the winter months when they are close inshore.
