The most common of all the Emperors, found in tropical waters around the top end of Australia from Exmouth to South East Queensland.
Spangled Emperor are reef species that prefer shallow coral reefs, seagrass beds and even deep rocky reefs up to 200 m deep. Spangled emperor are a fantastic sport fish and will put up a good fight for their weight, often a challenging opponent on light tackle around rocks and in shallow coral lagoons.
Emperors will readily take soft plastics and jigs from the bottom in deep water. However if the environment, tide and conditions are right emperors can be found in shallow waters feeding while the tides runs out, here you can target them on poppers, stick baits and sinking stick bait lures.
