Fitzroy River Barra Flats
The outgoing tide is great for barra and salmon. Good sized Salmon can be caught here around October- between the bridges and Devils Elbow. For best bait use live prawns and herring. Soft plastics are recommended the best way to hook a Barra. Many have found White Slick rigs to produce the goods. Consider a straight retrieve, with a relatively quick speed. Remember closed season for the barra is from midday 1 November to midday 1 February. Mud crabs are also prominent around the flats, especially between Gavial Creek and Devil’s Elbow.
